As the Commander of Canadian Forces Base Borden it is my distinct pleasure to extend to you and your family a warm invitation to join us at the Base on June 11th and 12th, 2016 for the Canadian Armed Forces Day and Air Show spectacular! This year’s event will be extra special as we celebrate our Centennial year.
Over the last 100 years, almost 2 million men and women have passed through the gates of the Base since we began training soldiers in trench warfare in July 1916. As the largest military training base in Canada, CFB Borden now trains approximately 20,000 students each year and we have supported every major conflict that Canada has been involved in since the First World War. We have a long history in Simcoe County and I am awe-inspired and very humbled by the support you have shown our Defence team and their families over the last century. It is this shared rich history that makes for a very exciting time at CFB Borden and our privilege to have you join us to share in the exciting events that showcase your Canadian Armed Forces.
At this year’s Air Show you can expect to see amazing military and civilian aircraft and performers that will highlight our history and demonstrate the modern capabilities of the Canadian Armed Forces in a four hour long aerial display highlighted by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds (431 Air Demonstration Squadron), the CF-18 Demonstration Team and Canadian Armed Forces Parachute Team - the SkyHawks, to name just a few.
As the Command Team of CFB Borden, Chief Warrant Officer Gilles Godbout and I feel truly privileged to be part of the Borden community during our Centennial celebration.
With that in mind, I also invite you and your family to discover more about Borden and its past by visiting our wonderful museums, or check out our Centennial Website (www.100yearsoffreedom.ca) for information on the many exciting events that will be occurring both on the Base and in our surrounding communities throughout the year.
On behalf of all personnel at CFB Borden, we look forward to seeing you there.
